During our ethanol production processes, we transform sugarcane bagasse (biomass) and use steam to produce thermal, mechanical and electrical energy. We can co-generate 3,100 GWh of electricity. Sugarcane bagasse, a by-product of ethanol production, is today one of the most important sources of electricity in the national matrix. In 2010, this type of bioenergy made up about 5% of the country's electricity supply, being the second largest source of renewable energy, second only to hydroelectric plants.
